KFC AM

Our job was to create a TV spot to launch KFC’s new breakfast range. We wanted to capture the magic of morning, and show people that KFC chefs now do the early shift. Just so you know, this script originally started with ‘open on an empty New York street’, but the CD decided that a two-night shoot in Slough would be better.

This was ad of the day on both David’s Reviews and The Drum.

Secret 7″

I was lucky enough to have my work be part of the Secret 7″ exhibition, which raises money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. It sat along side the likes of David Shrigley, Michael Spencer Jones, Andy Vella, Central Station, Toby Mott, Stylorouge, Richard Evans, and Grammy winner Peter Corriston.

Audi Quattro

When we were asked to think of a winter press ad for quattro, I drew this as a joke. But the CD said he liked it, so it got made.

Wedding Stationery

The good lady and I wanted wedding stationery that didn’t look like traditional wedding stationery, so I designed this. We had two ‘events’ (the wedding itself in Portland, and a reception in North Yorkshire), so the invitations were rotatable. And for all the type geeks out there, one typeface was English and one was American. Every piece of stationery featured our silhouettes.

ITV Rugby World Cup 2011

We split this campaign into two main sections, both focusing on ‘what it takes to win’. For the first part we shot the four world cup winning pundits: Lawrence Dallaglio, Michael Lynagh, François Pienaar, and Sean Fitzpatrick. We asked them their thoughts on ‘what it takes to win’, and illustrated their quotes. (A portrait of Dallaglio from this series now hangs in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery.)

The second part of the campaign ran post-game: we created a series of ‘tactical print ads’. They were a real challenge to produce and supply in such a small amount of time. The day started with us watching the game in the ITV studio, and interviewing Mr Dallaglio and friends immediately after the final whistle to get their thoughts and opinions. We then designed and supplied the final artwork, all in under six hours.

Dunlop

In March 2011 we were sent to Iceland to shoot a TV spot and the print for Dunlop’s new Wintersport 4D tyre. The shoot was a disaster. We flew to Iceland to film a TV spot and shoot a few print ads, but the weather was so bad the Icelandic Met office told us to get off the mountain. We left with nothing. Anyway, we re-shot one of the print ads in sunny Brighton, and here it is.

Gumtree Posts

When I’m bored or I have a bit of free time, I like to post ads in the ‘lost and found’ or ‘free stuff’ sections on Gumtree. They get removed pretty quickly, because Gumtree thinks they are ‘not suitable’ or something. I don’t know. Anyway, I like the replies I sometimes get.

England vs Wales

We were asked to promote the England vs Wales match and let fans know that it wasn’t just a pre-World Cup practice. We shot this image at Twickenham, the home of English rugby. (We accidentally dyed Haskell, Hape and Wilkinson’s kit pink with all the red smoke). This was used in both print and poster.

British Airways

BA wanted a poster that showed people they could fly pretty much anywhere from Heathrow, so we made a series of them. We worked closely with the brilliant illustrator Vahram Muratyan.
